We read Goldilocks and the Three Bears (in Spanish) during our sequencing unit. It gave me the idea to teach my students how to select just right books while at the library center. We made connections to the story about how just like Goldilocks we need to make sure to find books that are just right for us to read. We discussed how to tell when a book is too hard (dificil), how to tell when it's too easy (facil), and just right (Perfecto). I used pictures of the chairs in the story as a visual on my chart. I have it located in our library center so as to remind my students while they are there what to look for in a book. I always hear my students telling each other "este libro es muy facil" or "este libro esta perfecto". They're book selection lent itself to them being able to retell the stories they were reading independantly. They're retelling allowed me to document progress in English Language Development.
